Marchena

Marchena is a village within the province of Seville. The population in 2009 was of 19.764 inhabitants, with a 379 square kilometres area and a population density of 51,55/km². 37º 20’N, 5º 25’W are its coordinates. It is located at an altitude of 150 metres above sea level and 60 kilometres from Seville.

It is well known for its Semana Santa and for its historical monuments (declared Historic-Artistic interest) like San Juan Bautista Church and Rosa Arch (Seville´s gate). The area is also notorious for its deep relation with flamenco, being an important cradle of flamenco artists like Pepe Marchena or guitarist Melchor de Marchena.
